Dear Hiring Managers & Recruiters,

Please Stop Fighting! Hiring is a team sport. And like any team sport, TEAMWORK is essential. Too many times I hear from our clients that the recruiting team and the hiring managers blame each other when they can’t fill a position. The recruiting team will say the hiring manager is “difficult” or “too picky”. The hiring manager will say the recruiting team doesn’t bring quality candidates.

To help create good chemistry, clearly define everyone’s role in the process. The hiring manager’s role is to clearly communicate the position requirements and provide timely feedback on resume submittals and timely feedback after interviews. This allows your recruiting team the chance to calibrate the search.

The recruiting team’s role is to identify, attract and sell the company and opportunity. They also have to be respectful of the feedback the hiring manager provides and adjust their efforts accordingly.

I know personalities play a part in all of this. However, if we put the team goal above all else, successfully filling a position, it is easier to look past petty personality differences etc.
